Having been struggling with a painful Achilles, I decided to give the Shock Doctor Achilles Sleeve a try.
Whilst it was one of the more expensive options, it definitely looked like a superior product being made of a lightweight breathable fabric with contoured foam padding for the Achilles.
Wearing the sleeve around the home felt really comfortable.
My first run with the sleeve unfortunately didn’t go too well. Running in a pair of Adidas shoes with high ankle support resulted in the padding rubbing up against and aggravating my Achilles so about 2km into my run, I had to stop on the side of the road and remove the sleeve.
It is worth mentioning that my Achilles injury is more on the severe side and I’ve had to go for regular treatments of needling, massage and electrotherapy.
I have since found that using the sleeve right after activity has really helped.
I also think that if your Achille’s injury was less severe or if you were running in a pair of running shoes with lower Achilles support, so that the padding doesn’t rub up against the shoe, it would work really nicely.
